Friday 23rd October 2015 was the evening that Warwickshire’s Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Timothy B Cox presented Coleshill Town Band with the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service commemorative crystal.
On 2nd June 2015, the Queen’s birthday honours were announced. In amongst those honours, the Coleshill Town Band organisation was recognised by way of the Queens Award for Voluntary Service, an award considered to be a collective equivalent of an MBE. This is an unbelievably prestigious achievement.
The award is in recognition of the breadth and depth of our organisation and the service and charitable contribution it provides to the local community. It has come about as a result of a nomination made nearly two years ago by Mike Walpole, supported by Bill Richards and Roy Charlesworth (of the Royal British Legion). Nothing was heard for a long time until last December when we were advised that we were being considered but were required to go through a rigorous review process – undertaken by representatives of Her Majesty.
The actual award was confirmed only very recently but due to the confidential nature of the process and award, it had to be kept under wraps by the small handful of people that were involved in the review process. A very difficult thing to keep quiet!! Part of the award process involved invites for our former Chairman, Wendy Donnelly and Musical Director, Stephen Fagg to attend a garden party Buckingham Palace – which they duly did on 20 May. A surprise, an honour and a privilege to attend such an event.
More information will follow in terms of what this all means in practice but the key message for now is CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE INVOLVED WITH THE COLESHILL TOWN BAND ORGANISATION.
This is without doubt an award that everyone should be sharing in as it is about the organisation as a whole, past and present.
