Coleshill Beginner Brass, which is made up of local youngsters between age 7 and 11 performed at the National Festival of Music for Youth at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham. The festival ran from July 7-11. The band was chosen to take part in the festival, from a pool of more than 40,000 young musicians taking part in the largest youth music event in the world in 50 locations across the UK. The band’s successful regional performance saw the band being commended on their excellent "queens lift"; the art of lifting their instrument smartly before playing, in addition to their stylish musical performance.

The band is conducted by Coleshill Primary School year 6 teacher, Sally Fagg, who was delighted when the invitation to perform at the national festival arrived:

“I was absolutely thrilled.  This is testament to the hard work of all the youngsters, and their dedication.  It is fantastic that the resulting music-making has been recognised as outstanding at national level.”

Coleshill Beginner Brass was formed in 2009 by Sally Fagg. There are approximately 20 musicians between the age of 7 and 11.   They rehearse at Southfields Farm in Coleshill between 5:30 and 6:30 on a Friday evening in term time.  They are currently working hard to develop a programme of music for the event on Friday 10th of July at Symphony Hall.

All the young musicians were thrilled to have the opportunity to perform at such a grand venue.
The Coleshill Beginner Brass appearance at Symphony Hall, also represented the first public appearance of their new waistcoats. Not only did they play absolutely brilliantly, they looked pretty smart too.

A wonderful day, that will remain in the memories of all our talented performer and proud parents!

Coleshill Beginner Brass is part of a feeder group for Coleshill Town Band, which also consists of Coleshill Youth Brass for older musicians.
